Wheelbarrow Walk For Adoption

Wheelbarrow Walk for Adoption:
On Saturday, June 9th TeJay will begin the long 25 mile walk around the McCarran loop while pushing a wheelbarrow. The wheelbarrow holds significance for several reasons:

1.  It’s symbolic of the main idea behind the event-to help “share the load.”
2.      We are hoping it will draw attention and therefore raise awareness about the great need for adoption in our world.
3.      It’s pretty darn cool.

About Us:
We are TeJay, Ashleigh, and Eva Harvey. We are just an ordinary family. We are not super rich, super churchy or super special. However we do love Jesus and we want to glorify Him whenever possible. We have always wanted multiple children and we feel it has been put on our hearts to add our next family member by means of adoption.

After pursuing local avenues and having the doors close, we found our agency One World Adoptions where they introduced us to the Democratic Republic of Congo program. We quickly fell in love with the country, the people and the children as we learned more and more of the frightening statistics:

-The DR Congo has a population of 70 million, of those 5 million are homeless children.
-The infant mortality rate is 20%, the second highest in the world.
-The average salary is $300.00 A YEAR.
-Approximately 25 percent of children ages 5- 14 are working to help raise money for their families
-Sexual slavery, human trafficking and child soldiers are rampant in the area.

The list goes on and on.

In John 17 Jesus prays for his disciples. He says he is sending them out into the world as his own representation, and he prays for their unity. He prays that they will be united as "we are united"; that the world will be changed by the love that they show in his name. Jesus has a heart for the broken; he was a fighter for social justice. For the oppressed, the widowed, the lame, and the orphan he was an advocate.

As a family we long to bring one child out of that equation- making one less orphan. We cannot do this on our own we just don't have the funds. This however has served to only bring further glory to God and his power.

There are still many hurdles to clear and much prayer is needed. Our overall costs are estimated to be around $25,000 and as you can see by our thermometer, we've come a long ways-but still have about 60% to go.

Our Mission :
1. Bring glory to God- We have been adopted as sons into the family of God; therefore we can think of no better way to glorify our heavenly father than by attempting to show the same love he has shown us to another human being in need.
2.We want to highlight the need for adoption by sharing our story.
3.We hope the church community can use our story and motivation, to serve God by serving others, to share and spread the Gospel among friends and coworkers.
4. And of course we wan to bring our baby home!

  1. Hi there--
I am kind of a bit of groupie when it comes to adoption blogs but especially love "We are adopting from the DRC" adoption blogs. :-)
We brought our son home in Jan. of this year. He is such an amazing blessing and I left part of my heart there in the DRC I am afraid.
I blog over at http://divinemomentstlf.blogspot.com/ -- So feel free to stop by and borrow a cup of sugar anytime. LOL
This is a really unique fundraiser idea.
